What does it take to create good graphic design?

An understanding of principles for lines and elements.

What is the difference between elements and principles?

Elements can be isolated and is used to make design while principles tell us how to use them.

Name the six (6) elements of design.

Line, Shape or Form, Space, Texture, Value and Color.

What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with  other lines or shapes?

Readability, appearance, message of the design.

Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?

Horizontal Lines. I think it suggests a feeling of rest because it is laying down.

Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?

Loftiness. This is because it is standing up and it looks tall.

What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?

Diagonal Lines. It looks like if they are falling, which is movement.

Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?

Comfort, safety, and relaxation. This is because it looks peaceful.

These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?

Curved lines, because it also looks violent if put in another perspective.

What element defines a specific area of space? What is the difference between two dimensional shapes

and three dimensional shapes?

The elect is shape and the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes is that two dimensional has width and height while three dimensional has width, height, and depth

Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?

Geometric shapes are symmetrical shapes such as circle, triangle and square
Organic shapes are manmade shapes found in nature that are often irregular and fluid, such as leaves

What are abstract shapes?

Simplified versions of natural shapes

Which basic shape projects an attitude of honesty or equality?

Square projects honestly and equality
What do triangles suggest?

Triangles suggest action and stability

Circles convey feelings of what?

Circles suggest a feeling of protection and infinity

Describe positive space and negative space?  What is texture? Incorporating texture into a design can help do what? What is value?

Positive space refers to the object and elements used for a design while negative space refers to the shape around the object. Texture is the actual surface of the design. Incorporating texture will help the create the feeling of richness and depth. Value the degree of light and dark of the design. It's the contrast between black and white

What is another name for value?  What can the element of color do when incorporated into a  design?

Value is also known as tone. Colors can be used to convey a mood, attract attention, and identify an object. Color can also be applied to other elements of design.
